Literature Text

Treading on the crunchy snow,
The sounds I hear are at a low.

Chilly air fills up my lungs,
Stars in the sky resembling crumbs.

The deathly-calm swallows me whole,
It feels as if I’ve crawled down a hole.

Vast and menacing the woods around,
Feelings of dread and sorrow abound.

Closely a dark form slithers by,
With greedy eyes and a sinister cry.

Bristling with thoughts that I shall die,
How insignificant and small am I.

Retreating behind a mental shield,
I envision myself in a golden field.

Safe in its world my mind will be,
If only the danger my body would see.

Shadowy creatures creeping closer yet,
Escape I could if mind and body met.

Wandering oblivious to its ingested fate,
My fleshy abode would a meal create.

Foul breath of the beasts yet to abate,
I must find myself before it’s too late.
I was feeling a bit sad/depressed/lonely, so I decided to write this poem.
